Program Overview
Cancer Registry Training Program is designed to develop skilled professionals in cancer registration, oncology coding, and clinical data abstraction.
Introduction
This module is designed to familiarize students with the concept of cancer registry and cancer registrar. It will also provide an overview of the oncology coding and staging system (ICD-O-3, the MP/H rules) focused on coding clinical information from medical records.
This course also features practical coding exercises to enhance your skills and validates proficiency in the correct application of medical codes in an inpatient hospital or facility as per international standards.

Program Objectives
- Introduce pediatric cancer registration and reporting systems.
- Develop proficiency in ICD-O-3 morphology and histology coding.
- Understand clinical evaluation, diagnostic testing, staging, and treatment pathways.
- Strengthen knowledge of oncology medical and anatomical terminology.
- Equip students with skills to abstract and report quality pediatric oncology data.
- Familiarize students with medical records and data quality standards.

Teaching Methodologies
- The program integrates structured lectures, coding exercises, and case-based learning. Students will receive training in ICD-O-3 coding, MP/H rules, and clinical data abstraction from medical records through LMS.
- Live Zoom lectures and interactive sessions are conducted to reinforce key concepts, clarify coding guidelines and enhance student engagement with instructors.
- Real-world case assessments and data quality review sessions ensure competency development aligned with international cancer registry standards.
Scope of Practice
Graduates will be prepared to work in hospital-based or population-based cancer registries, oncology research departments, public health surveillance programs, and clinical data management units.
