Groundbreaking Research Publication by Ms. Nasreen Jawaid, PhD Scholar at IUHS

We are delighted to announce that Ms. Nasreen Jawaid has achieved a significant milestone with the publication of her research article in a prestigious Springer journal, recognized as W-category, WOS SCIE, and Scopus Q2.

Article Title: H-SGE: A Hybrid Model Based on Scene Graph Enrichment for Automated Handgun Detection in Security Surveillance
Journal: Signal, Image and Video Processing (Springer)

In this study, Ms. Jawaid presents an innovative hybrid model that combines scene graph enrichment with deep-learning object detection to enhance the accuracy of handgun detection in complex security surveillance environments. By leveraging contextual relationships among objects and refining detector performance even when handguns are partially visible or occluded, the research addresses a critical gap in automated threat-detection systems.

  • Enriching the detection process by incorporating scene graphs that map relationships between entities in the frame (e.g., people, objects, background).
  • Improving robustness against challenging scenarios (small size, occlusion, cluttered background) typical of real-world security footage.
  • Demonstrating the potential of hybrid context- and image-based modelling for automated surveillance systems.
